ABOUT THE NEIGHBOURHOOD: THE ELMS / PELMO PARK / HUMBERLEA
An established Etobicoke neighbourhood in the north end of the city, The Elms is a diverse community made up of established professionals, young families and longtime residents from a wide variety of economic and cultural backgrounds. The Elms neighbourhood is located next to the very scenic Humber River Valley corridor, and as a result there are plenty of parks, mature trees and a varied landscape full of hills and ravines. It is situated just across the Humber River from the Pelmo Park / Humberlea neighbourhood and was historically developed in the 1950’s and 60’s in the area of many prior golf courses, namely the former Elms Golf Club. Another large golf course named Pine Point was located just south of the Elms course along Hadrian Drive and was sold in the early 1950’s to the same developers who built the nearby Rexdale neighbourhood. Streets in the area feature varied homes on longer driveways, wide lots and are lined with beautiful, mature trees.
A fantastic spot for recreation, The West Humber Parkland Trail can be accessed off Albion Road at the north end of the neighbourhood. This 5 kilometre trail follows the valley to the Humber Arboretum where a large variety of plants and wildlife can be enjoyed. Across the street from the West Humber Trail parking lot is Summerlea Park, which includes a baseball diamond, a playground and tennis courts that are used as an ice rink in the winter. Pine Point Park is a long park just north of the 401 in this neighbourhood. This multi-use park includes the Pine Point Indoor Arena, tennis courts, an outdoor pool, an outdoor hockey rink, a field, and a playground. The park is also the starting point for a 1.7 kilometre paved trail with bridges across the Humber River and nearby Berry Creek. Perfect for bike rides in the summer and walks during all four seasons.
